Science Education for Teachers Initiative

The science and educational resources of OSU are a great resource to elementary and secondary teachers in Ohio.  The OSU Extension Center at Wooster is developing collaborations with county educators, faculty and staff at OARDC, ATI, with the College of Education and Human Ecology, and beyond Ohio State University to impact K-12 science teaching in Ohio.

A pilot program in life-sciences is being planned for the summer of 2007 to reach 20-25 teachers with science education and hands on-programs they can use in their classrooms. Graduate credit or ceu’s would be offered.

The program will focus on helping the teachers assist their students meet the science standards in Ohio and raise the Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) report cards for schools who participate.  The impact would be more and more effective inquiry science teaching by these teachers as measured in amount and effectiveness of their science teaching.
